Structure and Fragments is a project that focuses in the objects behind our investigation and production process, in which we take them apart from their utilitarian function and turn them into work material. We study these objects parting from their materic characteristics and we develop structures from the accumulation, transformation and intervention on and among them.
With this approach on the object as a constructive element there is also a detachment from the idea of individuality, which is precisely the condition in which these objects acquire their functionality, leading us to the construction of a structure as a unity assembled by fragments detached from their original function.
In counterpart, we come across the unity of the object as an indivisible structure from which we recognize it as a specific element and also from which we can approach it as a tool or functional object. However, if we approach the object changing its original function and bringing it to the work material field, we can transform and study it parting from its physical characteristics through sculpture related processes, deconstructing it and fragmenting its unity. As a result of this process, the once individual object turns into a set of fragments detached from the structure but still related to each other by their belonging the original object, generating with this the possibility of rearticulate the object through an arbitrary restructuring of its components.
The structure shapes the object, and at the same time the object shows us it can be an element with which we can generate structures. This brings us to the idea of the object itself, as a unity and as a fragment, as a shapeable, divisible element; it brings us to experience its materiality, its utility and it´s symbolic quality, which in the end remains despite all manipulations.
